After reading the introduction of Colonize This! I think the editors of this book would be happy for all audiences to read this book because it makes anyone unfamiliar with brown feminism aware of the issues, struggles, and progress that takes place within it. But more specifically, the editors of this book state that it was important to them that this book was finished because writing is key to continuing to make progress. They state that they themselves became more and more aware and connected through reading brown feminist writings. They wanted to continue this because “It’s important for women of color to write. We can’t have someone else defining our lives or our feminism” (xxii). So it seems their key audience is other brown feminists who they hope to inspire.

The way the editors open the book with two letters describing two totally different situations that are actually very much connected really stands for what the rest of the introduction is about. By showing how these two women editors with very different backgrounds actually have a lot of similarities when it comes to the way they connect with their family, religion, culture, and outside world, it shows the spirit of brown feminism. The issues of repression they felt as women were also linked with list of things above and they needed to be addressed like that. The editors comparing themselves like this gave me a better understanding of why they felt more connected when they became involved in Brown feminist groups.
